Tucked into a retro Airstream behind Bouldin Acres on South Lamar, it leans into a playful 70s aesthetic and a community-first vibe that fits the brand perfectly. The shop describes itself as “coffee for dreamers,” with ethically sourced, locally roasted beans, organic syrups, and a creative, welcoming personality throughout.
One big plus is that Bouldin Acres has plenty of seating, so it’s an easy place to settle in and enjoy your coffee for a while. The space feels fun and relaxed, with enough shade to make it comfortable even on a warmer Austin morning. It also doesn’t feel as packed or hectic as some of the trendier coffee spots around town, which made the whole visit feel a little more easygoing.
We visited on a Saturday mid-morning, and it felt like exactly the kind of place people are happy to linger at. For drip, they were serving the Space Cadet blend from Chiapas, Mexico, with tasting notes of stone fruit, black tea, and a hint of citrus. It was mild and pleasantly fruity in a very easy-to-drink way, with a clean, balanced finish that made it especially nice for a relaxed weekend coffee.
The espresso was just as enjoyable. It used The Dreamer blend, sourced from Central and South America with tasting notes of almond, brown sugar, and citrus. Their small includes a double shot, which is always a nice bonus, and the espresso had just the right amount of boldness with a satisfying little punch. It was rich, lively, and exactly what you want when you’re in the mood for something with a little more edge than the drip.
What makes Funky Sol stand out is that it feels creative without losing sight of quality. The retro Airstream setup gives it a lot of charm, and the menu makes it a practical stop too. In addition to coffee, they also serve a few pastries, breakfast burritos, egg bites, and other food options, which is especially helpful if you want something a little more filling with your drink. There was also a cute little jewelry and pottery setup nearby, plus a lady offering caricature services, which added even more personality to the whole experience.
