Texas Coffee Traders Review (East Austin)

Texas Coffee Traders feels like a true Austin coffee institution. On its website, the company describes itself as Austin’s original Eastside roastery and says it has been providing fresh beans since 1994 with a focus on quality, sustainability, and community. That roastery-first identity comes through right away when you visit. The space feels warm and inviting, with plenty of indoor seating, a charming sitting area with yellow curtains and elegant light fixtures, and a large outdoor patio that makes it easy to settle in and stay awhile.

We were delighted to find out that patrons can sample the drip before buying, which makes the experience feel especially welcoming for coffee lovers. Texas Coffee Traders offers a large range of coffees and freshly roasted beans, and that freshness is easy to taste. The coffee feels lively and recently roasted rather than flat or stale, which makes a real difference from the first sip.

Their espresso was one of the most unique we have had. It was bold and tangy without being bitter at all, which made it especially memorable. Instead of tasting harsh or overly dark, it had a clean, expressive flavor that felt both balanced and bold. Our favorite drink, though, was the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe drip coffee. It was light, bright, and fruity, with notes of lemon and blueberry scone that made it feel especially fresh and vibrant. They also offer bottomless refills for certain sizes, which is another nice touch if you want to sit and enjoy the space a little longer.

What we enjoyed most about Texas Coffee Traders is that it feels like a place made for people who genuinely love coffee. Everything tasted fresh, thoughtful, and full of character, and the space itself made us want to slow down and enjoy being there. Between the distinctive espresso, the bright and flavorful drip, and the cozy, comfortable seating, this is absolutely the kind of coffee shop we’d be happy to come back to again.
