Radio Coffee & Beer Review (South Austin)

Address: 4204 Menchaca Rd, Austin, TX 78704Neighborhood: South Austin

We visited the Menchaca (South) location of Radio Coffee & Beer—one of their three Austin spots (along with East and Rosewood)—and it instantly reminded us why it’s such a local favorite. I ordered a simple black drip coffee and it delivered: smooth and mellow, with these subtle fudgy, chocolatey notes that made it easy to sip and even easier to finish. The staff really made the experience, too—warm, genuinely friendly, and when I asked for a little hot water to top off my cup, they offered a refill without hesitation. Radio Coffee & Beer primarily serves coffee made from beans roasted under their in-house label, RCB Roasters. The daily batch brew/pour-over options can rotate, so just ask the barista what’s on drip right now or look at their menu board.

More than coffee

Radio is more than just a coffee stop: they also serve local beers and craft cocktails, and the space is made for hanging out. There’s a huge outdoor area with plenty of shaded seating plus some indoor seating if you want to stay cool. Food-wise, it’s a choose-your-own-adventure in the best way—four food trucks (Shortwave Diner, Veracruz Tacos, Briscuits, and Wow Poke) plus pastries from Sour Duck, so there’s truly something for everyone. Add in live music, trivia, and weekly events, and you’ve got that relaxed, authentic atmosphere that feels effortlessly Austin.

Parking, and the verdict

Parking can be a little tight in the main lot, but between street parking and the overflow lot, it’s manageable. All in, Radio Coffee & Beer has a great vibe and absolutely earns its reputation as an Austin staple.

What’s changed since our visit

Still open at 4204 Menchaca Road, 7am until midnight most nights.

  • The same four trucks are parked up: Shortwave, Veracruz, Wow Poke and Briscuits.
  • The Sour Duck pastries look to have been a one-day thing. Don’t turn up for them.
